Abstract
The loss of hydrogen chloride (HCI) is one of the main fragmentation proces ses in the molecular ions of o-, m- and p-chlorophenols in the metastable t ime window. By investigation of D-labeled compounds, it could be establishe d that the eliminated HCI molecule contains only the hydroxylic hydrogen at om, not other benzene ring hydrogen atoms. This process is rationalized by the so-called 'ring-walk' mechanism for a chlorine atom, Copyright (C) 1999 John Whey & Sons, Ltd.
