Js. Kim et al., Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection did not lead to cure of duodenal mucose-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, SC J GASTR, 34(2), 1999, pp. 215-218
Duodenal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is very rare, an
d little is known about its clinical course or association with Helicobacte
r pylori infection. This report describes the case of a 76-year-old man wit
h a polypoid mass in the duodenal bulb, diagnosed as low-grade MALT lymphom
a. H. pylori infection in the duodenal mucosa was confirmed by histology wi
th silver stain. Endoscopic examination showed that the gross lesion regres
sed after the eradication of H. pylori despite its histopathologic persiste
nce. Ten months later, however, cervical and intraperitoneal lymphadenopath
y and bone marrow involvement was observed, and the pathologic diagnosis of
the cervical lymph node was identical with that of the duodenal lesion.
