This paper describes an interactive multimedia simulator for bomb threat tr
aining that was developed in Authorware 4.0. The objective of this project
is to improve the nation's capability to respond to bomb threats. The simul
ator provides realistic training on receiving and responding to a variety o
f bomb threats that might not otherwise be possible due to time, cost, or o
perational constraints. The use of the simulator was found to be statistica
lly significantly more effective more effective than both classroom trainin
g alone and classroom training with a practical exercise. Qualitative feedb
ack indicates that the simulator makes learning about bomb threats more int
eresting and effective. The development of this project was funded under a
grant from the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice, Office
of Science and Technology.
