The transfer of film images to video is complicated by differences in film
and video frame rates. In 50-Hz countries, 24 frame/sec film is run ar 25 f
rames/sec making the transfer. simple. In 60-Hz countries, the problem is m
ore complicated requiring some means to implement rr 3-2 pulldown sequence;
that is, one frame of film is transferred to three consecutive video field
s ann the next film frame is transferred to two video fields. The 3-2 seque
nce has been accomplished mechanically: optically; and electronically using
frame stores. This paper describes another approach which utilizes a norma
l projector and video camera with an light valve as an electeonic shutter t
o meter the same amount of light form the film to each video field.
