A review of friction and wear studies of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) bl
ended with other polymers is presented. PEEK is a high performance thermopl
astic now commonly employed in many engineering applications, but its tribo
logical properties deteriorate in high temperature environments, One approa
ch to improving the friction and wear properties of PEEK is to blend this p
lastic with appropriate polymers, In recent years, a number of investigatio
ns into the tribology of PEEK blended with poly(ether imide) (PEI), polytet
rafluoroethylene (PTFE) and liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) have been re
ported and these studies are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All
