Abstract
The crystal structure of sodium selenite, Na2SeO3, has been determined from X-ray powder diffraction data. The direct method package POWSIM has been u sed to determine the structure. The crystal structure is monoclinic, P2(1)/ c, Z = 4, n = 4.8963(2) Angstrom, b = 9.9849(4) Angstrom, c = 6.8391(3) Ang strom, beta = 91.994(3)degrees and V = 334.3 Angstrom(3). The final R-Bragg value obtained with Rietveld refinement was 3.3%. The structure consists o f [NaO6] octahedra and [SeO3] pyramids which are linked together through th eir edges.
