Abstract
The flat and linear source options of the characteristics neutron transport code MARIKO have been tested against accurate Monte Carlo solutions for a number of difficult benchmark problems. In case of strong scalar flux gradi ents the flat source option requires fine spatial discretization and the li near source option is both more accurate and computationally cheaper.
