Abstract
Superstructure reflections due to charge ordering have been observed in La1 -xSrxMnO3 single crystals using X-ray diffraction.. The critical temperatur es for the ordering process are 150 K and 180 K in samples with Sr concentr ations of 12.5% and 15%, respectively. For x = 0.125 the charge order trans ition correlates with a drastic resistivity enhancement, while a much small er change of the resistivity is found for x = 0.15. It is argued that the o nset of charge ordering in the sample with z = 0.125 is related to the supp ression of co-operative Jahn-Teller distortions which is initiated by risin g ferromagnetism.
