P. Nika, Parametrical study for performances comparison between classic orifice pulse tube and hybrid Stirling pulse tube refrigerators., INT J TH SC, 38(2), 1999, pp. 175-183
An internal dynamic comparative study of orifice pulse tube (OPT) and Stirl
ing hybrid pulse tube (HPT) is made, by thermodynamic modelling of the two
systems. Basical structure of the model is established based on mass and en
ergy conservation balances, written for separate control volumes of complet
e refrigerator. This method makes clear typical common parameters of the tw
o mechanisms and specific importance of pistons phase shift and swept-volum
es ratio for HPT. Starting from identical numeric characteristics for the t
wo refrigerators, the study considers principally phases' evolution for pre
ssure and mass flow rate at tube extremities. Greatest setting easiness, lo
wer dimension for equivalent performances, give to the Stirling hybrid puls
e tube good chances to be developed in miniature cryocooler area. (C) Elsev
