Effect of paper mill effluent on growth, yield and NPK Contents of transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L. var Mahsuri).

Effect of paper mill effluent on growth and yield of rice plant was explore d at Nagaon Paper Mill area, Jagiroad, Assam. The study revealed that nitro gen, phosphorus and potassium contents of rice plants from effluent affecte d areas shows significantly difference in their growth and productivity fro m that of non-affected (control) rice plant. Plant samples from ten differe nt paddy cultivated sites were analysed to find out the NPK contents of gra in and straw. Increase of NPK contents in grain and straw are accompained b y decreased plant height and grain yield.
