Abstract
The present work aimed at studying the participation of the homologous cont ralateral zone to a unilateral somatomotor cortex lesion, once the animals had showed a significant functional recovery, We studied recovery of coordi nated walking after unilateral motor cortex aspiration in rats. A callosoto my was performed 20 days after the initial lesion, without significant effe cts. We conclude that after this time period, the intact hemisphere prays n o role in the recovery process, suggesting that at this time point recovery does not depend on the integrity of corpus callosal fibers at this rostral -caudal level.
