Nanocrystalline beta-SnS2 has been successfully prepared by the reaction be
tween SnCl4 and anhydrous Na2S using a solvent-thermal method at 150 degree
s C, which is similar to the well-known hydrothermal process except that to
luene is substituted for water. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that t
he product is the beta-SnS2 phase, and no Sn-O vibrations are found in the
IR spectra. Transmission electron microscopy shows that the average particl
e size is about 12 nm. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
