Influence of heavy ions irradiation on magnetic properties of CuGeO3 single
crystals is presented. Magnetization data for the irradiated sample are an
alyzed in the frame of the Bonner-Fisher model. The contribution of broken-
chain effects to the susceptibility of the damaged volume fraction of the s
ample is considered. It is shown that irradiation leads to the breaking of
dimerized Cu-O chains and to the collapse of spin dimerization.
