Capnocytophaga sputigena ovarian abscess

A strain belonging to the Capnocytophaga sputigena species was isolated fro m an ovarian abscess in a 46 year-old woman. There was no underlying factor except for the removal of an intra-uterine device 3 months before due to a non documented uterine infection. If it is relatively frequent to isolate Capnocytophaga sp. from blood cultures, other localizations are more rare. As far as we know, no Capnocytophaga ovarian abscess had been previously do cumented. Isolation and identification of this genus are relatively easy bu t confusion with genus Fusobacterium is possible.
