Abstract
We have monitored the time course of the cationic and secretory response of rat pancreatic islets at incremental rise and fall in D-glucose concentrat ion between 7.0 and 9.0 mM in a perifusion device. Under these close-to-phy siological conditions, the hexose caused changes in Rb-86 and Ca-45 outflow , as well as insulin output, comparable to but less pronounced than that ob tained in response to more substantial and rapid variations in D-glucose co ncentration.
