Abstract
In this paper, we show than an FDTD analysis provides all of the useful inf ormation to study devices using photonic bandgap (PBG) materials into the r eciprocal space of wave vectors. This new kind of analysis is very complete since it can consider very complex structures, excitations, or defaults in the dielectric periodicity of the PBC structure studied. This method provi des the modes which propagate the electromagnetic energy: and the values of the k wave vectors. These values are compared to the wave vector read on t he photonic band structure diagram. (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
