Based on the variational approach, a new Hamiltonian formulation to analyze
dispersion-managed solitons in wavelength-division multiplexed systems is
developed. Using the Hamiltonian dynamics, the periodic dispersion maps tha
t minimize residual frequency shifts in a two-channel system can be easily
determined. Comparison with full numerical simulations ensures the accuracy
