In this article rye underline the importance of the transcriptional control
of dopaminergic receptors in animal behavior. In particular, genetically m
odified animals, for some retinoid receptors, show locomotor phenotypes whi
ch resemble those found in dopamine receptor mutants. The finding that the
dopamine D2 receptor contains in its promoter sequences that are responsive
to retinoids points to a possible role of these molecules in the establish
ment of neuropathological diseases.
