Studies in Perenniporia: Perenniporia detrita and its taxonomic synonyms

The type and a second specimen of Perenniporia detrita (Basidiomycetes, Aph yllophorales) have been studied in order to ascertain the status of this ta xon. These studies have shown that two species were included in the origina l material. Furthermore, the types of the previously proposed taxonomic syn onyms of Pe. detrita, viz. Polyporus vicinus, Po. delavayi, Fomes mesoleucu s, Po. labis and Trametes atra were reexamined. The three former represent three distinct species. The types of Polyporus labis and T. atra are steril e and their identification is uncertain. Perenniporia sprucei is described as new, and the new combinations Pe. delavayi (synonym Pe. formosana) and P e. vicina are proposed.
