Abstract
In this paper we review the main properties of CW optical parametric o scillators (OPO) and in particular the output power values and the fre quency tuning properties of the singly, doubly and triply resonant con figurations. We study the mode coupling and competition between the di fferent Gaussian modes sustained by the OPO cavity, and show that in t he stationary regime and for a non-degenerate cavity the oscillation o n a single pair of modes is the only stable configuration.
