Ja. Levenson et al., QUANTUM-NOISE IN OPTICAL PARAMETRIC AMPLIFICATION - A MEANS TO ACHIEVE NOISELESS OPTICAL FUNCTIONS, Quantum and semiclassical optics, 9(2), 1997, pp. 221-237
We describe some limitations of the noise performance of classical opt
ical devices which are directly related to the Poissonian statistics a
ssociated with ordinary laser beams. We show that quantum optics, via
optical parametric amplification, allows us to circumvent these limita
tions in order to realize certain noiseless optical functions such as
amplification, duplication, detection and distribution of optical sign
als.
