We report a Al-27 nuclear magnetic resonance study of CeAuAl3 at frequencie
s between I and 77 MHz and temperatures from 0.04 up to 300 K. CeAuAl3 is a
new heavy-electron compound that orders antiferromagnetically at 1.32 K. B
ased on our NMR results we suggest that the magnetic structure of the AF or
dered state of CeAuAl3 is of a simple spiral type with the ordered Ce momen
ts aligned ferromagnetically within the basal planes of tetragonal CeAuAl3.
We estimate a reduction of the Ce magnetic moments of less than 25%, which
we associate with a weak Kondo screening. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier S
