Itinerant 5f-electron antiferromagnet UNiAI(T-N = 19.3 K) undergoes a metam
agnetic transition in fields (B-c approximate to 11 T) applied along the c-
axis of the hexagonal ZrNiAl-type structure. The same structure is preserve
d in the UN1-xPdxAl solid solutions x less than or equal to 0.4 characteriz
ed by isotropic lattice expansion with increasing x. The gradual increase o
f B-c and T-N due to the Pd doping can be tentatively attributed to enhance
ment of antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
