As high-T-c superconductors show strong anisotropy in their transport prope
rties, a detailed analysis of the interlayer coupling seems to be quite imp
ortant. To gain further insight into this problem we study the bilayer t-J
model within the dynamical mean-field theory. We present results for the ba
ndstructure and the optical conductivity, which show that charge fluctuatio
ns between the layers are reduced by the strong correlations. Moreover, the
re is an even stronger suppression by the antiferromagnetic order. (C) 1999
