The temperature dependence of the positive muon spin relaxation rate, lambd
a(T), in Pr1/2Sr1/2MnO3, measured for zero and transverse fields, strikingl
y resembles that of magnetization bi(T), showing successive transitions fro
m a paramagnetic insulating to a ferromagnetic metallic (FMM) and subsequen
tly to an antiferromagnetic insulating state. In the FMM regime, between T(
C)congruent to 259 K and T(N)congruent to 134 K, maximum shifts in lambda a
nd in M seem to scale with applied fields. Dynamic local held variations av
eraged over the muon lifetime may be responsible for the lambda temperature
dependence. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
