Abstract
Atomic ground-state properties are evaluated by means of a modified semicla ssical approach with a quantum-mechanical treatment of the near-nuclear reg ion. The results for the energy and lowest-order radial expectation values are close to Hartree-Pock. results, improving the Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Weizsa cker estimates. [S1050-2947(99)01603-0].
