Abstract
To assess the accuracy of simplified methods for the treatment of ion dynam ics in Stark-broadening theory, we have compared two such methods, the rela xation theory and model microfield method, against benchmark calculations f ur the CVI H-alpha line. It is shown that both methods show poor agreement at low densities. [S1063-651X(99)12702-8].
