Abstract
Photophysical and photochemical properties of five recently synthesize d tricarbocyanine dyes have been investigated. The dyes investigated s howed a capability for accumulation in HeLa cells. It was shown that t he dyes accumulated in cells mainly in a monomeric form. Dark toxicity of dyes in vitro was studied and photodynamic efficiency of the five dyes in tumor cells was tested. Four of the dyes have shown a pronounc ed photodynamic effect in terms of cell killing when optical irradiati on was applied in the spectral range of absorption of the photosensiti zer in the doses of 36-73 J/cm(2).
