A kinetic analysis of the reduction of metal salts by sodium borohydri
de in the bulk of porous polymer matrices was carried out. Parameters
of the as-formed metal layer were shown to be controlled by interplay
between the rate of the diffusion flux of reagents into the polymer ma
trix and the rate of the reduction reaction. The validity of the concl
usions is demonstrated for the nickel-containing composites based on a
porous polypropylene matrix, which were prepared at different tempera
tures. The model schemes of composites that can be obtained using this
method are presented.
