Arylenedimethylsiloxane copoly(amic acid)s were synthesized by simulta
neous or sequential addition of siloxane-containing and aromatic diami
nes and also by mixing preliminary synthesized siloxane and aromatic o
ligomeric homo(amic acid)s bearing terminal amino groups. Correspondin
g copolyimides were prepared by imidization of copoly(amic acid)s in N
,N-dimethylacetamide. The microstructure of the resulting copolymers w
as studied by C-13 NMR spectroscopy. It is shown that the method of sy
nthesis affects the block length of the forming copoly(siloxaneimide)
and its mechanical properties.
