We have characterized the topological organization of chaotic regimes
of a modulated Nd:YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) laser using template a
nalysis. This investigation revealed a topological structure not previ
ously observed in an experimental system nor in numerical simulations
of models of this laser to our knowledge. This structure corresponds t
o the so-called reverse horseshoe theoretically described by Gilmore a
nd McCallum.
