Sonography is an important, noninvasive and non-expensive method for detect
ion of renal tumors. Only in early stages of transitional cell tumors, intr
avenous urography is considered as a standard procedure. If a renal tumor i
s suspected, computed tomography and magnetic resonance tomography should b
e performed, according to the clinical situation and the expected findings.
In combination with color doppler sonography and angiography, these proced
ures often allow to make a specific diagnosis and are essential for preoper
ative planning.
