Va. Bolshakov, RESULTS OF PALEOMAGNETIC STUDIES OF PLEISTOCENE MORAINES IN THE EUROPEAN PART OF RUSSIA, Stratigraphy and geological correlation, 5(6), 1997, pp. 604-614
The results of paleomagnetic studies of moraine deposits are analyzed.
The observation data imply that moraine beds display a considerable s
catter of magnetization vectors regardless of the rock age. It is infe
rred that the anomalous magnetization vectors recorded in moraines mig
ht be caused not only by geomagnetic excursions, but also by the speci
fic conditions of magnetization of the moraine beds. Opportune example
s are given to show that the granulometric composition of the magnetic
fraction in moraines can serve as one of the factors determining thes
e conditions. Statistically justified reversed magnetizations were det
ected in the exposures of the Pleistocene moraines.
