A case of Salmonella Paratyphi C osteomyelitis in a one-month old girl
is reported. She was born at term from parents belonging to an Africa
n ethnic group. She was hospitalized because of pain in her shoulder w
ithout fever. The initial X-rays were normal, the C reactive protein l
evel reached 116 mg/l, blood and cerebro-spinal fluid cultures were po
sitive with Salmonella Parathyphi C. Cefotaxim was used, initially com
bined with amikacin for 21 days. The X-rays showed destruction of the
humeral head and reconstruction after 5 months. A strain of Salmonella
Paratyphi C was detected in the mother's feces.
