Infrared and Raman spectra of three aluminium selenites Al-2(SeO3)(3)
. 3H(2)O, Al-2(SeO3)(3) . 6H(2)O and AlH(SeO3)(2) . H2O have been reco
rded and analyzed. The existence of a SeO3HSeO3 dimer is confirmed in
AlH(SeO3)(2) . 2H(2)O and the possibility of the presence of HSeO3- io
ns is ruled out. The distortion of the selenite ion is found to be mor
