Abstract
Objective: To evaluate intramedullary K-wire fixation as a surgical te chnique in the management of displaced two or three parts proximal hum eral fractures. Design and subjects: Retrospective study of 16 patient s with displaced proximal humeral fractures managed by closed reductio n and intramedullary K-wire fixation at King Khalid University Hospita l. Results: All fractures treated healed with minimal complications. O ne wire migrated proximally and had to be replaced. A second patient h ad stiffness of elbow which resolved following removal of K-wires. Con clusion: Intramedullary K-wire fixation of displaced proximal humeral fractures following closed reduction is a recommended technique.
