Objective: To evaluate intramedullary K-wire fixation as a surgical te
chnique in the management of displaced two or three parts proximal hum
eral fractures. Design and subjects: Retrospective study of 16 patient
s with displaced proximal humeral fractures managed by closed reductio
n and intramedullary K-wire fixation at King Khalid University Hospita
l. Results: All fractures treated healed with minimal complications. O
ne wire migrated proximally and had to be replaced. A second patient h
ad stiffness of elbow which resolved following removal of K-wires. Con
clusion: Intramedullary K-wire fixation of displaced proximal humeral
fractures following closed reduction is a recommended technique.
