Spontaneous rupture of the liver is a relatively uncommon but potentia
lly fatal complication of pregnancy generally associated with pre-ecla
mpsia. This case report is of a grand multipara who presented with pre
-eclampsia and was subsequently found to have spontaneous rupture of t
he Liver. Bleeding was controlled effectively by the technique of peri
hepatic packing when other operative measures failed. Perihepatic pack
ing is a well known technique advocated for the management of liver in
juries and this may be successfully applied for cases of spontaneous r
upture of the liver during pregnancy.
