Optical absorption spectrum, photoluminescence (PL) and electrolumines
cence (EL) in poly[(tetraalkyldisilanylene)-p-oligophenylene]s (PDSiOP
) are found to be dependent on the length of the oligophenylene but no
t on the length of the short alkyl substituents such as methyl and eth
yl substituents. Spectral narrowing of the blue PL was observed in pol
y[(tetraalkyldisilanylene)-p-oligophenylene]s upon intense optical exc
itation due to stimulated emission. PL quenching and photoconductivity
(PC) enhancement upon C-60 doping are commonly observed in these poly
mers. These characteristics were explained taking the important role o
f oligophenylene units in the main chain into consideration.
