A unique method of micropatterning in the order of microns for an orga
nic electroluminescent (OEL) device has been developed. The method con
sists of a cathode separator with a reverse tapered or a T-shaped cros
s section which is formed prior to the deposition of organic layers an
d metal cathodes. By introducing the cathode separator, a high-resolut
ion OEL display panel with gaps of less than 30 mu m between pixels ha
s been fabricated.
