Abstract
The monodomain equation for rigid rodlike polymers in the nematic phas e is here extended, in a simple form, to the polydomain situation. The mathematical problem is further simplified by considering a two-dimen sional restriction. Preliminary results are presented for simple shear flows, showing the formation of a superstructure along the sample thi ckness.
