The prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in the elderly populat
ion may be as high as 20%. There is little information, however, about
elderly patients with GER-associated asthma. The exact relationship b
etween GER and asthma is unclear, although the association is well rec
ognized. This article reviews the data that link GER to clinical prese
ntations, diagnostic tools, and treatment options.
