Abstract
The magnetic field dependence of the critical current I-C(B) and the r emanent magnetization of several multifilamentary (BiPb)(2)Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox tapes were measured. The low field behavior of I-C(B) is interpreted by the self-field effect, whereas at higher fields, the field dependen ce for all tapes was found to be identical except for a constant facto r. Although self-field transport critical current densities j(C)(0) di ffered widely for the tapes, the intergranular critical current densit ies determined from remanent magnetization were found to be equal. The results indicate that the reduction of j(C)(0) by macroscopic defects is an important factor, whereas locally the filaments are of high qua lity. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
