Abstract
Withdrawal from the cell cycle as cells begin to differentiate is acco mplished by the downregulation of cyclin-dependent kinase activities i n G(1) phase. Recent analysis of loss-of-function mutations in flies, worms, and mice has provided insight into the roles of various negativ e regulators of G(1) phase in developing organisms.
