A karyotype of an Indian pygmy mouse, Mus dunni, from a site near terr
a typica (Hariana state, India) was studied. Chromosome routine and di
fferential (G-, C- and AgNOR-bandings) stainings of this mouse were pr
epared. C-banding confirmed the presence of additional heterochromatic
arms in this species. Localization and the number of nucleolar organi
zer regions (NOR) in chromosomes of M. dunni was studied for the first
time. An unusual phenomenon among mammals, the presence of NOR in the
X-chromosome was found.
