ON THE WAY TO CARBON NITRIDE

The data, nowadays accumulated on the problem of hypothetical crystall ine carbon nitride, are considered. The information is given about the crystal structure, chemical bond nature, and physical properties of c arbon nitride. The most interesting prognosed property of carbon nitri de is very high hardness, that may be as high as that of diamond. The experiments, realised in order to synthesise the carbon nitride, are d escribed, and materials obtained are characterised. The results of the rmodynamical calculations of carbon nitride and its synthesis processe s are considered.
