Crystalline Ti(II) complexes [(C5H5-nMen)Ti(eta(2)-Me3SiC=CSiMe3)(mu-C
l)](2) (n = 3-5) (1-3) were prepared by reduction of the appropriate c
yclopentadienyltitanium trichlorides (C5H5-nMen)TiCl3 in tetrahydrofur
an by one equivalent of magnesium in the presence of at least one equi
valent of bis(trimethylsilyl)acetylene. The X-ray structure analyses o
f 1-3 revealed that all compounds form chlorine-bridged centrosymmetri
c dimers.
