A novel chain-like polymeric copper(LI) complex bridged simultaneously
by mu(2)-carhoxylato-O,O',mu(3)-hydroxo and mu(2)-aqua ligands, [Cu-3
(HO)(2)(H2O)(2)(Me3NCH2CO2)(4)] (ClO4)(4) . 2H(2)O, has been prepared
and characterised by X-ray crystallography. The chain is composed of t
riangular subunits containing two octahedrally coordinated copper(II)
atoms and one tetrahedrally coordinated copper(II) atom. The six-coord
inated copper(II) atoms are ligated by a pair of the carboxylato oxyge
n atoms (Cu-O = 1.980(4)-1.991(4) Angstrom) and a pair of the mu(3)-hy
droxo groups at the equatorial positions (Cu-O = 1.984(4)-1.998(4) Ang
strom), and a pair of trans-related aqua ligands at the axial position
s (Cu-O = 2.332(5)-2.349(5) Angstrom); another copper(II) atom is four
-coordinated, being bridged to the two six-coordinated copper(II) atom
s through a pair of the mu(3)-hydroxo ligands (Cu-O = 1.968(4) Angstro
m), and the coordination sphere is completed by two monodentate carbox
ylate groups (Cu-O = 1.933(5) Angstrom). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A
