Abstract
Total synthesis of (+/-)-alpha-pinguisene 1 and (+/-)-pinguisenol 2, e mploying an orthoester Claisen rearrangement and an intramolecular dia zo ketone cyclopropanation reaction for the stereospecific constructio n of vicinal quaternary carbon atoms, is described.
