Abstract
Evolution strategies are heuristic optimization techniques which emula te biological systems. In this paper first it is shown that they can b e formulated as one-dimensional maps and that they can be extremely se nsitive to initial conditions. Then it is shown how this chaotic behav ior can be exploited to efficiently conduct search operations for a gl obally optimal solution.
