C. Oneglia et al., THROMBOLYSIS-INDUCED REGRESSION OF ATRIOVENTRICULAR-BLOCK WITHOUT INDUCTION OF THE BEZOLD-JARISCH-REFLEX IN LARGE INFERIOR WALL MYOCARDIAL-INFARCTION, Journal of cardiovascular diagnosis and procedures, 14(3), 1997, pp. 181-185
It is common opinion that thrombolysis-induced reperfusion in inferior
or inferoposterior wall myocardial infarction can trigger the so call
ed Bezold-Jarisch reflex. In five consecutive patients with these type
of acute infarction, we did not observe this reflex but instead noted
prompt improvement of atrioventricular conduction. Therefore, it is l
ikely that the fear of vagal stimulation and consequent bradycardia or
worsened AV conduction with thrombolysis in these cases can be no lon
ger sustained.
